Why study nursing?

As the only university in South Dakota to earn a Holistic Nursing Program endorsement, Augustana and its nursing department have been regional leaders in preparing nurses for more than 80 years.

  • AU pass rates on the NCLEX are historically higher than the state and national average.
  • Nursing students are immersed in an interactive learning environment that features an advanced simulation center, case study reviews, role playing and electronic health records.
  • Students have weekly clinical experiences in health care settings in Sioux Falls ” a health care hub.

Six ºÚÁÏÉçÇø students have been awarded Fred C. and J. Marie Christopherson Scholarships for the 2026-26 academic year. The recipients of the Fred C. and J. Marie Christopherson Scholarship are recognized as students who are committed to the university, respected by their peers, have a strong work ethic and a solid character.

When an alumna was diagnosed with T-cell prolymphocytic leukemia, her fellow Augustana classmates didn™t think twice about rallying around her. Two Augustana alumnae ” who had never even met ” came together to be by their friend side.

When Hannah Roland ˜26 and Knut Opheim ˜26 arrived at ºÚÁÏÉçÇø, the Norwegian nursing students expected to stay for just one semester. Within weeks, a supportive community, busy campus life and new friendships convinced them to extend their stay to a full academic year.

Hands-On Learning

Many future health care workers choose to become patient care techs, CNAs or volunteers at local hospitals to gain experience while in school.

Courses & Organizations

Nursing applications are due no later than Feb. 15 of the year in which the student desires to begin upper-division nursing courses. Applications are available in the nursing office.

    Accelerated Nursing Program

    Earn an Accelerated BSN

    Become a nurse in just over a year with the ºÚÁÏÉçÇø Accelerated Nursing Program. Our program is designed for students who have a bachelor's degree in a different area from an accredited institution and would now like to pursue a nursing career. At Augustana:

    • Our 16-month accelerated program includes two fall semesters, one J-Term, one spring semester and one summer session, along with the completion of prerequisite courses. Our program is offered as a full-time plan of study with classes taking place in person during the day.
    • Our accelerated nursing students receive full-time, quality instruction from Augustana renowned nursing faculty. We are proud of our students' NCLEX success rates.
    • Our program is competitively priced with a review of transfer credits available for the prerequisite courses.

      Norwegian Nursing Exchange Program

      Why study with the exchange program?

      ºÚÁÏÉçÇø welcomes Norwegian students from partner universities to study with renowned faculty in this holistic nursing program for a semester.

      • The ºÚÁÏÉçÇø Norwegian Exchange program partners with , , , and .
      • This international student nursing curriculum has been designed to include 15 U.S. credit hours, which is equivalent to 30 Norwegian ECTS credits.
      • A streamlined application process allows students to prepare for the program with just an application, transcripts, passport and professional essay.
